Abuja Metro FC launched their new FC Bayern kit in a pre-season friendly match against Habees FC on Friday. The team came second best in the 5-goal thriller at the Area 3 football pitch, Garki, Abuja.
Before the game, the AMFC Media caught up with two of our longest serving players at Abuja Metro FC – midfielder Prince Kenjonnes and goalkeeper Promise Anyanwu. They shared their comments on the football kits donation from FC Bayern.
Kenjonnes is remembered for providing the wonderful assist for our first league goal in history. He was passionate about the jersey – “Confidence is the best apparel anyone can have on. There is no better way to show confidence with passion for the game than wearing a jersey from one of the biggest clubs in the world. With me in this Bayern jersey, I am confident that I’m a step closer to my dream.”
Our number #1 goalie Promise Anyanwu is motivated by Manuel Neuer, the FC Bayern number #1 – “I have always dreamt of wearing the Bayern Munich jersey. It means a lot to me. It shows me that football is not just about the round leather. It is about love, family, and lots more. It would be a privilege to put on the Munich jersey. The likes of Manuel Neuer motivates me to be a better goalie.”
We will be looking out for Promise Anyanwu in our next game. Will he perform the sweeper-keeper role?
The match against Habees FC was our first match in 2020. With the Covid-19 pandemic, football activities were grounded until the ban was lifted by the government. We featured some of our new players on trials in the 3-2 loss to Habees FC.
Hussaini opened the scoring in the third minute with an assist by Success. 10 minutes before the break, new signing Henry found Eze to put Abuja Metro FC 2-0 ahead. Habees FC drew level in the second half before Eze got his second booking of the game with 7 minutes to play. With a man advantage, Habees FC scored the winning goal.
