Samba FA Denied by Ekedoro’s Equalizer

In preparation of the FCT FA League, Abuja Metro FC played out a 1-1 draw against visiting Samba Football Academy at the GSS Pitch, Garki. Ikenna Ekedoro came off the bench to score an equalizer that denied Samba FA victory.

The match which was initially postponed due to poor weather conditions was almost called off due to the rains again. But the match went on, thanks to the collective effort of the teams.

Samuel Ajayi started in goal as one of the new faces in the team. Leonard Eboh led the attack, flanked by Charles Utah and Jonathan Habakkuk.

Subs: Pyrus Jitoboh, Ikenna Ekedoro, Yohannes Oboghare, Nuhu Ismaili, Justin Agwu, Bobby Abba, Michael Sekejor.

The last time the teams met, Samba FC were 5-2 winners in the AMAC Unity Cup group stage with a brace for Charles Utah. On Saturday, the Samba FA players didn’t give our free scoring Utah the opportunity to register a goal.

After a goalless first half, Ikenna Ekedoro came on for DaJoe Meshark in the middle of the pack while Yohannes Oboghare replaced Jonathan Habakkuk on the right.

Abbas Zubairu stunned Abuja Metro with the opener in the 51st but the lead was shortlived for less than 2 minutes. With just 8 minutes on the pitch, Super-sub Ikenna Ekedoro scored the equalizer with a good assist from captain Bernard Bitrus.

Pyrus Jitoboh and Nuhu Ismaili came on for Samuel Ajayi and Temple Steven in the 63rd minute but the Metros were unable to breakdown the resolute backline of Samba FA.

With 15mins left to play, Justice Agwu, Bobby Abba and Michael Sekejor came into the fray for Bitrus, Ramson and Eboh.

Naphtali Oboghare emerged man of the match after putting up an impressive shift on the right.

The game ended 1-1, a good work out to end the month.
